About

My name is Katie Fitzgerald, and I am the Read-at-Home Mom. I have five children: daughters M. (11 years old), C. (9 years old), and E. (7 years old), and boy/girl twins R. and A (4 years old). My husband and I are both trained librarians, and we share a common love for well-written children's literature. We homeschool all of our children.

Read-at-Home Mom started in 2016 as a repository for reviews of middle grade and young adult books I read in the early years of motherhood to prepare for homeschooling. Over the years, it has shifted toward more of a journal where I track what the family reads each month and our schoolwork. I rarely write new book reviews.

Other things to know:
  • I am the author of Story Time Success: A Practical Guide for Librarians (Rowman & Littlefield, 2016), and Successful Summer Reading Programs for All Ages: A Practical Guide for Librarians (Rowman & Littlefield, 2018).
  • I am a short story writer. You can see all my published works of fiction on Substack (and subscribe to my newsletter too, if you're interested!)
  • I and my family are practicing Roman Catholics. We have a special affinity for books which portray our faith accurately and treat it kindly.  I write about books and other topics at CatholicMom.com
  • Though I have done so in the past (and may still be on several outdated lists of reviewers), I am not accepting unsolicited review copies in 2025.
  • I am very active on Goodreads
